Hello and welcome!
We are happy to announce that we have tied up with codechef and will be mainly using their platform for our purposes. For example, all the open competitive programming contests will be hosted on codechef.
One such feature is Codechef Discuss, the site you are on right now. This is a kind of a forum where people can ask questions and get them answered by the other members of the community. Below are a few guidelines for you to start using it right away. You need not be a club member to use Discuss.
- You are always free to ask any question, however stupid it may seem. But ask questions that have not already been asked and also make sure you are not spamming.
- You can also answer others' questions and that will count as your contribution towards the club. Again make sure, you are not spamming.
- You can also upvote some question that you like or some answer or even some comment. Upvoting something tells the author of the question/answer that you like his writeup.
- You can also downvote questions/answers in case you think answers are extremely poorly written.
Also the top contributor for each month will be given a “Member of the month” badge for his valuable addition to the community and will also feature in the website.
In the beginning it maybe a bit hard but overtime the discuss users will get hold of it, even I started out someday
Note: I will be moderating discuss from time to time and any spammer/bully will face strict actions like a temporary suspension or a permanent ban from the club and the community. A banned user cannot use Discuss anymore. Also, note that comments don’t get karma for upvotes while answers do. The reason is that if you want to comment when it does not add any value to the question or the announcement then you are supposed to ask it as a comment and not a separate answer. Asking it as a separate answer will be considered as “Karma farming”
and the user will be temporarily suspended for malpracticing it. A suspension or ban may even be subjective, for example, serially downvoting someone’s good answers, etc. All these malpractices are to be avoided.
