Will I lose my karma if I upvote?
No, it’s not like your karma is moved from you to user you upvoted, so you can use it every time you want. For example you like some answer and/or question. Upvoting is good signal for others, which answers to read first (answers are ordered by default by votes). You can upvote also question that is not yours and answer that is related to question not written by you.
