New Rating Divisions (Div1/Div2) on Codechef

If they get too tough, then div2 will take care of you. Dont worry

The number is experimental, and will change. Of course, more problems is merrier. Since its newly released, they need time for it to stabilize and adjust things accordingly.

I canā€™t see the codes I submitted under Recent Activity in My Account.
I felt like reporting this minor bug here

They are already fixing it.

This can be absurd question, but isnā€™t 1800 very low border for Div.1? I just saw Div.1 long challenge problems, they are expectable hard for users who have 1800-1900 rating, because ~1800 here is like specialist in Codeforces and you just can see the difference. Do you have any thoughts about changing that cut-off?

Hey There!

The basic motivation kept in mind was, if something like 2000 was kept cutoff for Div1, then the number of participants in it would be too low.

The system is newly brought, so most of the number can change depending on user satisfaction. Just that, they need time for things to settle in before they begin changing and modifying stuff.

This is a great move by codechef, it will make the community much stronger than ever. But I think there should be some common contests for both DIV1 and DIV2.The people whose rating is in 1800-1900 should get a chance to participate in DIV2 contests too. This will not affect the motivation in case the rating drop.I hope things to improve in coming months.

Thanks Chef,

P.S. Happy Birthday

Since Codechef is primarily for improving Indian students, Many people would be motivated by the fact that they are in div1 here even if they couldnā€™t make it to div1 at any other site (Including me).

Judging from the number of submissions in div2, they seem to have end up making div2 easy for the div2 people.

How many problems will there be in Cook-offs and Lunchtimes in each division?

Also, I think 1800 rating is a bit low for Div.1. Maybe 1900 or 2000 will be better?

Anyway, thanks CodeChef for this great feature and happy birthday to Chef

Just suggestionā€¦@vijju123, @admin, Codechef can have virtual contest system. Ofcourse it wonā€™t affect rating of user but can give chance to solve the problems under contest environment for those who missed the contest.

Ya its too good for all of us if codechef provides contest environment for those who missed the contest.

What will happen to laddus? Will country wise participation be counted according to their division or globally? @vijju123

Let me ask it.

The changes have been detailed here: https://discuss.codechef.com/questions/51999/how-do-i-win-a-codechef-goodie?page=1#52066

Country wise participation will be counted globally.

Judging ratings should involve a lot more manual labor by the staff at CodeChef !

What do you exactly mean by manual labor?

I personally think that the border rating of 1800 b/w Div1 and Div2 is a nice Idea as it will pamper and push the contestants with rating just above 1800 to contest with good programmers which will help them refine their skills. There is no point in participating in a contest in which you can easily solve all questions of that divisionā€¦
